Maybe, Just Maybe, I Could Have Been a Good Pianist

I really wish I had started earlier. I would have learned it. Although I didn’t have the support of private lessons, a music school, not even my very own musical instrument at that time, still, I knew I would have learned to play it. Just like how I somehow learned to play the guitar on my own. Back when there was no YouTube tutorials yet, back when all I have was just a copy of guitar chords that I ripped off from my brother’s song hits, and a bunch of determination and will to learn.

But no, for some reasons, faith is telling me, I should learn it. I have all the time in the world right now.. errr not really! Coz most of my time is spent parenting my child. But, since I am working at home it gives me more opportunity to tap those black and white keyboards, and maybe learn a few notes. I need a motivation. I don’t quite know how to put this in words but I do get frustrated when I can’t seem to focus on doing it.

I was told by a friend that if I really want to learn how to play piano, it’s definitely not age that should hold me back. All it takes is me, a keyboard, in my case, I have my brother’s piano, and the music I like to play. She told me to keep in mind to free my mind because there is NO such thing as “too old.” Start with a great song and never rush myself! It’s about fun, not about speed.

If, like me, you’ve just started out on your piano journey, you can find some useful tips via YouTube piano tutorials, and first thing’s first, you can find one from the varieties of pianos and keyboards here.

They say a great song that you truly and deeply love is your best motivator for learning to play an instrument. Hmmm… problem solved.

  1. Why do you need a motivation to learn to play the piano? You already have the motivation. Instead, what you need is an inspiration. Give yourself a pat on the back, because you are not finding reasons why you can’t and shouldn’t. Looking for inspiration is looking for reasons why you should, and that is a positive attitude.

So you may think that the lack of inspiration is a negative, but no, that is a positive if you seek a solution. And that is an example of how you turn a negative into a positive.

    For inspiration?

Ask your kid to teach you if he/she is like 4 years old and above. 🙂

  2. I am a frustrated with playing the piano too. I was actually enrolled by my mom when I was 5, but I didn’t have the drive to learn. I really wanted to learn though, I just don’t have the perseverance to push it. Good luck to us!

  3. Your friend says it all. there is nothing too old for us to learn if we really want it badly. I have dreamed of playing piano too it’s just that, my time doesn’t coincide with my plans. But anyhow, I would really love to give it a try one day.

  4. ah! That’s one of my frustrations as well… I really want to learn how to play piano and I had several attempts too but it seems like Piano is not really for me but as what a friend told me… playing instrument is not a talent but a skills that everyone can learn so I guess with more effort and determination to learn, i might be able to make my “musician” dream come true..
